Prince Edrin Vael was a week from his coronation. The sword went in between the shoulder blades and came out under his sash, and it is still there: hilt jutting over his left shoulder, point showing at his hip. He does not seem to notice it. He walks the gallery with his cloak thrown back and his chin up, the narrow crown still on his hair, waiting for somebody to explain.

A Murder You Can Read From Both Sides: Turn him around and the story is all there. The cross guard and grip sit proud of the cloak at the shoulder, and the blade reappears at the front beside the belt, so the weapon is the one hard, straight line on a figure that is otherwise all falling drapery. Paint it in a different tone from the ghost (cold steel, or a dull red glaze along the edge) and it reads instantly across the table. The frog fastenings down the doublet are the cleanest edge highlight on the model.
