From the maker
The phoenix on her shield is a promise. She gets back up.
Sister Maudra serves an order that buries its dead and then avenges them. Her veil falls past her shoulders over a coat of scale, her habit is edged with studs instead of embroidery, and the mace in her right hand has flanges made for denting helmets. A heavy medallion rests at her collar. She prays before the fight and during it, mostly through the mace.
A Shield That Carries The Model: The phoenix is sculpted in raised relief inside a braided border on a long kite shield, and it is the centrepiece of the figure. Paint the field dark, drybrush the bird in gold or flame tones and it reads clearly across the table. The veil is one long, smooth drape that takes a glaze well, and it meets the scale mail at a hard line that holds a wash cleanly.
