Hello!
Hello, my name is Tyler! Nice to meet you and welcome to my slice of the Internet. This website that you're on is Plukio (pluck-ee-oh) and it's a curated directory of small scale goods. A lot of it is handmade, but I fit in some stores that a bit bigger than that - think 1-10 person woodworking shops who make really cool furniture, for example. I made this because I saw a lot of small time makers struggling to get traction in a world where everything on Etsy and Pinterest is an AI posting or something that is dropshipped. I also felt there was a need to have a place where people don't have to be cognitively weighed down by the possibility that what they are buying is faked. So, Plukio was born.
How Plukio works
The way that Plukio works is that it serves as an indexer and aggregator for independently ran websites that sell handmade and small batch stuff. Plukio isn't like Etsy; you can't buy the stuff here. All it does is help people discover artists and woodworkers and other small businesses without the worry of ordering something dropshipped off of Temu. Everything on Plukio is something that I manually verified. In many cases, I have walked up directly to a stall at a craft fair and said "oh hey you have really cool stuff I'm building an Etsy alternative can I put your stuff on my website" and I do a little jig. Works most of the time.
So what do I do?
Plukio is pretty similar to how other ecommerce sites work. Just try to find what you want or need. I'm working as fast as I can to add more shops. The biggest difference is that there is a "shopping list" instead of a shopping basket. Since Plukio doesn't let you buy from all these wonderful shops on the site itself, you need to go to each site to complete the transaction. A shopping list helps keep all of that organized.
How can I help?
I know it's kind of dumb to ask for help but I'm just one human bean working on this. I don't have the advertising budget of a gajillion dollars. I can't afford to hire sunglasses in shade cool advertising agencies that will push my website to the top of Reddit. If you like the IDEA of this website then please check out the socials at the footer of the website. There's a subreddit, a Discord, and some other bits and bobs. If you see something you don't like about the site or you have a suggestion PLEASE let me know by, well, any of the avenues available to contact me. And if you see comments on Reddit or TikTok or whatever talking about how they don't have a place to find handmade stuff then PLEASE mention this site. I'm trying sooooooooo hard.
I'm a maker how do I get my site on here
It's currently free! And instant! If you sell things and want to have your site hosted here post in the Plukio subreddit with your domain and what you sell and what platform you use and I'll take a look. Discord also works too. I can't promise that I'll add it - if you obviously and egregiously use AI then, like, I'll probably pass.
