From the maker
Overview
The Shibata Arare SG2 Tsuchime Bunka 165mm pairs a compact, versatile blade with a distinctive geometric hammered finish. Its SG2 powdered stainless steel core offers strong edge retention for everyday preparation, while stainless cladding keeps maintenance straightforward. The pointed kiritsuke-style tip gives you control for shallots, garlic and detailed vegetable work, with enough blade height for comfortable chopping.
Choose the carbon-fiber handle option for a complete knife with an octagonal wa handle and a slim gold-colored spacer. Choose blade only if you want to fit your own handle: that option includes the blade and exposed tang, with no handle installed.
Common Questions
What is this bunka best used for? Its compact size suits vegetables, herbs and boneless meat or fish. The relatively flat edge works well for push cutting, and the pointed tip helps with precise cuts. It is a useful everyday knife for cooks who prefer a shorter blade.
Is SG2 stainless, and how should I care for it? SG2 is stainless steel, but the knife should still be hand washed and dried immediately. Use a wood or knife-friendly synthetic cutting board, avoid bones and frozen food, and never twist the edge through a cut. Sharpen with whetstones when needed.
Does the blade-only option include a handle? No. Select Carbon Fiber Handle for the assembled knife, or Blade Only for a custom handle project. Handle fitting requires a suitable handle and installation; it is not included with the blade-only option.
