Overview
The Yu Kurosaki Shizuku SG2 Petty 120mm brings a compact, precise blade to everyday prep. Made in Echizen, Japan, it pairs SG2 powder stainless steel with stainless cladding and Kurosaki's distinctive hammered Shizuku finish. The short blade is useful for trimming fruit, preparing garnishes and slicing small ingredients when a full-size chef's knife feels cumbersome.
This knife comes fitted with an octagonal ebony wa handle and a marbled horn ferrule. The dark wood and contrasting horn complement the textured blade, while the handle's facets provide a clear sense of edge orientation. The photos show the handled knife available.
Common Questions
What is a 120mm petty knife best for? Use it for small fruit, shallots, garlic and careful trimming. It is a useful companion to a gyuto for focused work and small portions.
Is the blade stainless, and is it suitable for home cooks? Yes. Both the SG2 core and cladding are stainless, making this a practical option for home cooks who want a compact Japanese utility knife. Hand wash and dry it after use; never soak it or put it in a dishwasher.
How should I maintain the edge? Use a knife-friendly board, avoid bones and frozen food, and do not twist the blade in a cut. Sharpen with whetstones as needed, or use our knife sharpening service.
