Double gauze is two cloths woven as one. On the face, UES weaves a herringbone — the continuous V-shaped twill that reads, from a step back, as a faint vertical stripe; behind it sits a plain weave, open and highly breathable, and the two layers are bound together in the loom. The result is a fabric with a light puff to it: soft against the skin, cool in the heat, and quick to absorb and shed moisture, which is what makes a gauze shirt the right one for hot weather.

The indigo does the rest. The puffy fabric is triple-stitched at the seams, and as the cloth relaxes with wear and washing, the seams pucker — small ripples of fabric along every line of stitching — and the indigo wears off their high points first, so the shirt fades where it was sewn. 100% cotton. Made in Japan.

Fit Notes: This shirt runs small. Compared to most global American brands, we recommend sizing up one from your usual size: a size 4 (XL) fits similarly to an American L, a 3 (L) to an American M.
