From the maker
In collaboration with Focus Features and Robert Eggers' Werwulf, Blood Milk presents a trio of jewels steeped in the folklore of the Werewolf. Inspired by rituals of shape-shifting, ancient amulets, and devotional objects, each piece harkens back to an era when the night’s darkness and its creatures contained dreaded horrors.
Werwulf is only in theaters Christmas.
The Lycanthropic Bouquet necklace is composed of an arrangement of poisonous flowers that appear recently harvested and tied tightly: Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum,) Wolfsbane (Aconitum napellus,) Deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna,) and Black Henbane (Hyoscamus niger.) Each of these baneful plants were historically known from demonologist texts to be used in the infamous witches’ ointment. When utilized in a ritualized fashion, this mysterious substance was perpetrated to give the ability of flight to witches; they flew specifically to the Sabbat on a variety of objects and animals, including wolves. The lycanthropic ointment, believed to be similar if not one in the same as this nefarious unguent, was believed to bring about shape-shifting, notably when anointed on bare skin and in conjunction with wearing a wolfskin as a shirt or belt.
This beautiful yet baneful bouquet nods to this historical method of transformation into a beastly horror brought about by an enchanted ointment.
