The 8HU DENIM SERVICEMAN WORK SHIRT is based on a pattern worn in the 1950s and made from a 9 oz. gray weft denim. Notable period details include two simple, buttoned breast pockets and a chin strap, which may have been called an extension neckband in the first half of the 20th century.

The "serviceman shirt" was typically manufactured for the employees of factories, stores, and service providers. Because they were ordered in such large volumes, they were usually  made from durable, easily sourced materials such as denim and chambray.

Produced by a wide range of manufacturers, these shirts became a defining staple of mid-century American workwear. Prior to World War II, there was greater variety in design, with brands experimenting with features like pocket shapes, back yokes, and stitching. However, the material restrictions imposed during the conflict pushed production toward more simplified patterns, the use of which continued thereafter.
