Handmade in Zinapécuaro, Michoacán, this round ceramic vase is crafted from locally sourced clay and burnished to achieve a distinctive, natural shine. The surface is then transformed using al negativo, a rare and intricate decorative technique unique to the region. After the initial firing, the piece is carefully removed from the kiln before it fully bakes. At this stage, artisans apply hand-painted designs in mineral pigments. The piece is then returned to the kiln and smoked at high temperatures, which turns the unpainted clay dark while preserving the painted lines in bright contrast.

The result is a deep red-black vessel where each stroke reveals the artisan’s hand. These symbolic designs draw from the region’s Purépecha heritage and reflect the spiritual legacy embedded in everyday objects. With rich yellows, teals, and natural earth tones, this vase brings both beauty and meaning into any space. Use it to hold dried florals, seasonal greenery, or simply as a striking decorative accent on shelves or tables.
