Silk is a difficult fiber to weave, and almost nobody puts it in denim. Momotaro does: the weft of this 15oz selvedge is silk, against a warp of Zimbabwe cotton rope-dyed in the brand’s deep Tokuno Blue indigo, for a cloth that is 58% cotton and 42% silk. The face keeps the structure and the weight of proper denim, with a faint luster the cotton alone would never have; the back — the side that sits against the skin — is silk, and feels like it. The weft threads have been respun finer for a more polished finish, and because silk absorbs moisture and dries faster than cotton, the fabric runs cooler than its weight suggests, which makes it a 15oz denim you can wear in warm weather.

The #200 is Momotaro’s relaxed tapered: a mid-high rise, a slightly roomier thigh and a leg that narrows gently from the knee down — comfortable through the top block, clean at the ankle, and easy to dress up or down.

The details are those of the brand’s new line. A lined waistband keeps indigo off a tucked-in shirt; the front closes with a custom zip fly; the front pocket rivets are flush-set so they never scratch a phone, and the back pockets use hidden rivets. The coin pocket is enlarged, the pocket bags are cut in heavy-duty canvas, the construction is chain-stitched throughout, and the patch is indigo-dyed cowhide with Momotaro branding, beside the signature peach selvedge ID. Sanforized. Made in Kojima, Japan, by Japanese denim craftsmen.

Fit Notes: These jeans fit true to size. Compared to most global American brands, a size 31 fits similarly to a standard 31. We recommend taking your usual size for a comfortable fit. The fabric is sanforized, so shrinkage will be minimal. The waist will experience the typical stretching seen in sanforized denim — expect approximately 0.5 inch of stretch with wear. We don’t recommend sizing down, as starting too tight may cause discomfort and alter the intended fit of the garment.
