From the maker
This is a meticulous Japanese reproduction inspired by the iconic Levi's denim jackets of the 1940s. Crafted from the renowned 14.5oz Zimbabwe cotton with a left-hand twill weave, this jacket pays homage to the "War Model" details produced during World War II, providing a unique vertical fading effect for an authentic vintage feel.
The distinctive left-hand twill Zimbabwe cotton denim fabric offers a vertical fading experience, creating a unique aesthetic. Despite the generally soft and smooth nature of extra-long staple Zimbabwe cotton, the fabric maintains a robust structure through an increased limit of weft thread insertions, resulting in profound vertical fades and high-contrast aging characteristics.
The transition from a triple-stitched construction to a double-needle chain stitch, influenced by wartime resource constraints, adds historical authenticity. The characteristic rounded chest pocket, with its softened flap edges, replicates the sewing specifications of the Levi's War Model, contributing to the overall vintage appeal.
The waist area, typically equipped with a cinch back and belt, is uniquely detailed with pleats and rivets, omitting the cinch back for a streamlined finish. The Flat Head's signature original rivets are employed, adding to the jacket's durability and style. The distinctive laurel wreath design donut buttons, a hallmark of the War Model, adorn the front, chest pocket, cuffs, maintaining an authentic vintage aesthetic.
A meticulous buttonhole technique involves pre-creating the hole surroundings and using the back method, leaving fabric fringes as a buffer between buttons and thread, enhancing durability and minimizing wear.
This jacket runs slightly smaller in size compared to your regular American size. Typically, if you wear a size M in American jackets, you will need to select a size 42 (L) in this. However, individual body types can vary, so, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit.
The Flat Head is one of the benchmark Japanese repro Americana-style brands. Its founder, Mayashi Kobayashi, is known in the scene for being a die-hard fanatic of 1950s American style. Inspired by the music, motorbikes, cars, architecture of the era, and with a clear rockabilly influence, Kobayashi created in 1996 a truly authentic brand that today has some firm devotees. It stands out for the extreme quality of each one of its pieces. The brand is always very much aware of a curious philosophy that believes that a product is fully finished only after the customer has worn and moulded it to themselves.
