This mug was hand thrown and trimmed on my pottery wheel using a brown stoneware clay. While the clay was still soft I pressed various leaves from my garden into the clay. I then painted the exterior of the mug with white slip (liquid clay). Once the slip was dry, I peeled off the leaves leaving the natural brown clay underneath. It was then bisque fired and glazed with a clear coat on the outside and a blue brown glaze on the inside and fired again in my electric kiln. Because of the botanical removal some slightly rough texture may be felt where the leaves were impressed.
