From the maker
Overview
Hand-forged in Takefu Knife Village by Yu Kurosaki, the Masakage Shimo Petty 150 mm combines a nimble utility profile with a White #2 carbon-steel core and reactive, X-hammered Damascus cladding. The pattern evokes frost on glass, giving the line its name “Shimo” (霜). At 74 g, it is well suited to herbs, citrus, trimming proteins and other precise tasks, while the octagonal magnolia handle supports both board and in-hand work.
Common Questions
Q: Is a 150 mm petty large enough for everyday prep?
A: Yes. It is long enough for garlic, trimming chicken and sandwich preparation, while remaining precise enough for peeling fruit and other detailed work.
Q: How should I maintain White #2 carbon steel?
A: Wash by hand, dry immediately and oil occasionally. A quick wipe helps prevent rust, and a strop can maintain the edge between sharpening sessions.
