Van Gogh painted Almond Blossom in February 1890 in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, in the asylum where he was being treated. His brother Theo had just written to say his son had been born -- and named Vincent Willem after his uncle. Van Gogh painted the blossoms to celebrate. The blue sky, the white blossoms, the dark branches -- the composition is directly influenced by Japanese woodblock prints Van Gogh collected obsessively. Theo hung it above the baby's bed. The painting is at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. About this triptych
