William-Adolphe Bouguereau painted The Abduction of Psyche in 1895. Shown here in its alternate name Amor and Psyche, the composition captures Eros lifting Psyche toward the heavens in a moment of suspended movement. Bouguereau's handling of the male figure's musculature and the female figure's weight were considered technically exceptional by his contemporaries. The original is at a private collection.
