VETIVER ROOT
Vetiver is a fragrant grass whose roots plunge deep into the earth, anchoring the soil and yielding a dark, smoky, green-wood perfume that has been treasured in South Asia for centuries. Its roots have been woven into screens, mats, fans, and sachets, then moistened with water to perfume and cool the air during the fiercest heat. In Ayurveda, vetiver is traditionally valued for its cooling and grounding qualities; in perfumery, its tenacious root oil has long been prized for its earthy depth and fixative character.
In American folk magic and conjure, vetiver is worked for love, protection, and money. It is carried in charms, incorporated into sachets and incense, used to dress candles, and kept with money-drawing work. Some herbcraft traditions likewise call upon its deep-rooted character for protection, love, grounding, and prosperity.
