EIGENGRAU

The color your brain “sees” in total darkness isn’t black, exactly. The German term Eigengrau means “intrinsic gray”, describing the field of visual background noise which is the closest that human eyes can ever come to perceiving a perfect absence of light.

In tribute, here’s the darkest, grayest scent we can muster, devoid of any contrast that might make it read as a true black: mineralic ambrette, orris ashes, violet leaf, cold grey musk, vetiver root, oolong tea, Oman frankincense, and the faintest trace of charred cedar.
