Eye of the Dragon Brooch - Andamooka Opal in Sterling Silver

A vintage andamook opal from the Australian opal fields is nested in this hand forged sterling brooch with natural green sapphires.

Hand wrought sterling with over 1.3 carats of hand set green sapphires. The pin on the back is designed to sit flush against the fabric to keep it from drooping and has a very secure double pin closure. The pin itself is made from hardened steel.

This is a natural andamooka opal from Australia.  It should be noted that these opals are typically white to grey when mined and are then treated with sugar and heat to turn them black. This is a standard practice for this type of opal and is a permanent treatment that extends all the way through the stone. This was originally a larger oval which I re-shaped into the more exotic shape for this pendant.
