She is reading a decree aloud. She has not reached the end of it in three hundred years.

Queen Aeliss holds the book open in both hands and keeps speaking, and the words are the same words every night. The crown is a simple spiked circlet rather than anything ceremonial, her hair falls past the shoulders in heavy waves, and the gown gives out below the knee into long torn strips that trail behind her as she moves.

An Open Book Is Free Freehand Space: The tome is sculpted open with two flat pages facing the viewer, which is the largest smooth surface anywhere in the range and the obvious place for a line of script or an order’s seal. Medusa kept the crown crisp and the hair deep-cut, so the two details that identify her both take a wash and stay legible at arm’s length while the rest of the model stays pale.
