This tree is commonly found in parts of Western and Central Africa including: Ghana, Mali, and Burkina Faso. The main varieties include: Vitellaria paradoxa and Vitellaria nilotica. The cream-colored butter offers an exceptionally light, smoky aroma and retains pure and unrefined properties.

Refined vs. Unrefined Shea Butter

Shea butter may be refined or unrefined. Unrefined shea butter is the purest form of shea butter, which is the most natural and the least processed. Since it is extracted manually, it is able to retain its vitamins, minerals, and other natural properties.

Unrefined Shea Butter offers a long shelf life of 12 to 24 months if it is properly stored in a cool, dry environment.
