Short Carnation Candle Handmade in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca
This candle was handcrafted by artisans in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, using beeswax dyed in bold, rich colors. Each one is carefully shaped and built around a cotton wick, then decorated with sculpted wax carnations that are formed by hand while the wax is still warm.
The process is delicate and slow. Artisans melt and dye natural wax, then layer it until it holds enough shape to work with. From there, each flower is shaped petal by petal and placed onto the candle with intention and care. No molds are used—just the artisan’s hands and years of experience.
These candles are often used in celebrations and altars throughout Oaxaca, but they also make a beautiful addition to a dinner table or shelf. The carnations hold their form and color with time, making the piece as decorative as it is meaningful.
