From the maker

In the early 1940s, under the conditions of World War II in America, it was necessary to concentrate national resources to support the war effort.

As part of this, the Wartime Production Board implemented strict regulations on the manufacture of consumer goods, including clothing. In particular, cotton and metal parts (such as rivets and buttons) used in garments were prioritized for military supply, and workwear in general, including jeans and denim jackets, was greatly affected. Under the Board's guidance, any details deemed extravagant were thoroughly eliminated. Tack buttons switched from manufacturer-specific to ready-made ones, the number of front tack buttons was reduced from five to four, and the chest pocket flaps and buttons were omitted. These changes simplified the denim jacket’s design into a utilitarian, rugged style suitable for wartime specifications. Additionally, many skilled seamsters were conscripted into military production at that time, and sewing workplaces for workwear often employed less experienced workers. As a result, the sewing quality was rough, with uneven stitches and distortions not uncommon. Since even re-stitching was restricted, these imperfections were accepted as part of the finished product.

Reflecting this wartime context, we have meticulously recreated the coarse, functional sewing details and simplified design characteristics of that era. We deliberately reproduce the uneven stitchwork and "distortions" in specifications, while capturing the tarnished indigo blue shade reminiscent of oxidation and the unique rough texture of the period in a specially prepared 16.0oz selvedge denim for this jacket.

We use iron laurel wreath buttons for the tack buttons, which develop natural rust through aging. Also, the back fabric patch, known as the T-back, originally reserved for big sizes due to fabric width constraints and popular for its design, is employed in all sizes, so you can fully enjoy the wartime model details in your perfect size.
