These Andamooka opals are one of my favorite underrated opals! These stones come from Australia and are a natural earth mined solid opal. The stones typically come from the earth in a light grey or sandy color and the color play is very hard to see against the lighter background. So the miners developed a technique where the opal is cooked in a solution of sugar, and then treated in acid to permanently darken the matrix. This treatment helps the fire to really pop against the surface.

The band is about 17mm wide on top and gently tapers down to 7.5mm wide at the base. It has a nice low profile and a bezel wrapped stone for an easy to wear everyday ring.
