Kevin Smith’s cult classic Mallrats—which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025—captures a moment when the American mall was the center of youth culture: a place where friendships formed, trends were discovered, and entire afternoons disappeared between comic shops, food courts, arcades, and escalators.

Xyrena, in association with Universal, presents the official Mallrats fragrance.

Creative Director Killian Wells tapped into his olfactory memory of growing up in the 90s to shape this aromatic time capsule that somehow captures the many sensory layers of the American mall. Part cinematic homage and part nostalgic snapshot, the fragrance recreates the unmistakable atmosphere of wandering the mall with nowhere else to be.

The scent opens with the bright, creamy sparkle of a frothy orange-cream drink, alongside the faint chlorinated shimmer of indoor fountains and the humid mist of water features at tropical-themed mall restaurants.

At its heart, a nostalgic cucumber melon accord evokes the ubiquitous freshness of 90s body sprays, intertwined with a “department store accord”—a mélange of perfumes colliding and drifting through the fragrance department.

The base captures the warm, comforting aromas that defined the mall food court and surrounding shops: cinnamon buns made with rich Makara cinnamon and sticky sweet frosting, buttery soft pretzels from a bustling kiosk, the slightly musty hum of conditioned mall air, and the unmistakable scent of fresh leather from shoe stores and racks of jackets.

Playful, immersive, and unmistakably nostalgic, the fragrance is a quirky aromatic tribute to the golden age of mall culture—when hanging out at the mall wasn’t just shopping, it was a way of life.
